Similar facilities to hotels but usually smaller and less crowed ; most of them included a pool and close to many restaurants ; located on the whole island

Hostels :

Cheap and fun alternative of accommodation ; suited for students, young people and budget traveller

Tourist villages :

Located on te seaside, offers activities for families ; only 2 available on the island : Mellieha Holiday Center and Wardija Hlltop village in St Paul’s Bay

Villas :

Licensed accomodation ; located in Gozo ; most of them comes with pool and modern comforts

Holiday flats :

Private alternative , self-catering apartment ; mostly concentrated in the popular resort areas such Sliema and St. Julian's, St. Paul's Bay, Qawra and Buġibba as well as the Southern seaside towns of Birżebbuġa and Marsaskala, and in Marsalforn and Xlendi in Gozo

Eco certification:

Accommodation which is ensuring the environmental, socioeconomic and cultural sustainability ; it has been recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (following the GSTC criteria) This scheme launched in 2002 and now represents over 16% of hotels from 3-star to 5-star.

Sustainability management systems; Waste management; Purchasing; Control of chemicals; Energy; Water; Air quality; Noise; Building and green areas; Local culture & national surroundings; and Communication with customers
